Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Loyola's Late Rally Falls Short at Cal State Fullerton, 2-1

Sukow tallies first career goal for the Ramblers in the 88th minute

In Short
The Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team came out swinging in the second half, but weren't able to secure their first road win against Cal State Fullerton, 2-1 on Friday night at Titan Stadium in Fullerton, California.

How It Happened
Loyola struggled to find their rhythm in the first half, with little to no offensive opportunities. The Ramblers couldn't get a single shot off against the Titans, who scored two early goals in the first half within less than five minutes of each other.

The first goal for Cal State Fullerton came in the 13th minute, as Tyler Marquez sent the ball across the box to a waiting Christian Pinzon. Pinzon's header squeezed just in between Marcel Kampman and the left goal post. Oscar Flores was able to dribble inside in the 17th minute, and connected across the opposite corner to Sebastian Cruz who had a wide open look from six yards out.

The Ramblers reassembled their offense in the second half with a whopping 11 shot attempts, including a shot on goal from Alex Moskal in the 46th minute. Loyola continued to find chances to score, including a shot in the 64th minute from Ethan Stoneman that went just high of the goal. Justin Sukow finally found the breakthrough with mere minutes to go, connecting on a pass from Marius Kullmann and putting up a shot straight-on target from nine yards out. The Ramblers hustled in the remaining minutes, but the clock and the Titans prevailed.

A Look At The Numbers
• Sukow continues his impressive start with his first tally as a Rambler. The San Antonio, Texas native now leads Loyola with one goal and one assist on the season.
• Although Loyola didn't record any shots in the first half, they still outshot the Titans, 11-10 and won the corner kick battle, 6-0.
• Kullman's assist is his first of 2019, sixth in his career as a Rambler.

Up Next
The Maroon & Gold continue their road trip and will head to Loyola Marymount on Sunday, September 8 for a 3 p.m. kick-off.
