Loyola Drops 1-0 Decision To Loyola Marymount

Marcel Kampman recorded four saves off five shots on goal in the loss

In Short
A late penalty kick was the deciding factor as Loyola Marymount found the back of the net to seal a 1-0 win over the Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team this afternoon in Los Angeles, California. The Ramblers slip to 2-2-0, while the Lions move to 2-1-0.

How It Happened
The Lions and Ramblers played to a scoreless tie in the first half with the Ramblers outshooting the Lions 5-3. Neither team recorded any shot attempts in the first 26 minutes, until senior Chase Wright checked in and notched a shot on goal that was saved by goalkeeper Jacob Jackson. The Ramblers were able to get back on their feet following the pursuit, seeing shot attempts from Billy Hency and Aidan Megally. Loyola's best opportunity in the first half came from Fabian Becerra in the 48th minute, but it was saved by Jacob Jackson.

Marcel Kampman, who recorded four saves in the match, rejected LMU's best chance in the first half as Bastien Oberli sent a shot to the top right of the goal and Kampman was able to deflect it off his hands. The Lions continued to find open opportunities in the second half, as Alex Liu went one-on-one with Kampman in the 73rd minute. Liu had a wide open shot to the middle but over-passed to a teammate and put the ball way left of the box.

The defensive battle saw great touches from both teams, but it all came down to a penalty kick in the 79th minute, as Francis Avoce made it the winning goal for the Lions. Megally made one final attempt in the 89th minute, but the Lions defense got in the way.

A Look At The Numbers
• The Lions had a 13-9 edge in shots and put five of its attempts on target.
• Becerra recorded two shots on goal, while Wright registered one.
• Kampman had an excellent performance in goal, completing four saves.
