CHICAGO (November 12, 2020) – Preparing to begin her fifth season in Rogers Park, Loyola University Chicago head women's basketball coach
Kate Achter announced the signing of two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on Thursday. The Ramblers will welcome Destiny Jackson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) and Maddie Scarborough (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park) to their roster ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.
DESTINY JACKSON
5-10 • Forward
Fort Wayne, Ind. • Northrop
A native of Fort Wayne, Ind., Destiny Jackson has turned in back-to-back impressive seasons for head coach Rashida Muhammad at Northrop High School. As a sophomore, the 5-foot-10 forward stuffed the stat sheet, averaging 11.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, 2.1 assists, and 2.0 steals, earning Second Team All-Summit Athletic Conference (SAC) accolades. She continued to elevate her game this past season, adding 11.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.8 blocks, and 2.3 steals en route to being named a First Team All-SAC honoree. A member of coach Richard Wright's Indiana Flight club program, Jackson, who will play her senior season at Snider High School with head coach Akilah Sims, has finished as Northrop's leading rebounder and assist-getter in each of the last two seasons.
Achter on Jackson: "We can't wait to get Destiny on campus. Her chemistry with our team was instant, making us even more excited for her arrival in Rogers Park. She will bring a dose of athleticism and versatility to our already experienced group. Destiny has a hunger to be great and we can't wait to help her grow."
Jackson on Loyola:
"I chose Loyola because it is a place where I sensed that I could be myself and grow, not only as a basketball player, but as a student and young woman as well. It's a place where I can develop in every aspect in an environment where the people around me want to do the same."
MADDIE SCARBOROUGH
5-10 • Guard
Manassas, Va. • Osbourn Park
Arriving in Rogers Park by way of Manassas, Va., Maddie Scarborough has been a two-time first team all-district honoree during her time at Osbourn Park High School under the direction of head coach Chrissy Kelly. The 5-foot-10 guard averaged 12.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists as a junior, earning a second team all-region nod as she helped lead the Yellow Jackets to a third consecutive district title and a fourth-place finish in the Virginia High School League (VHSL) State Tournament. On the club level, Scarborough has captured a pair of Spooky Nook Championships with the Rise AAU program.
Achter on Scarborough: "Maddie is a wonderful addition to our program. Like Destiny, she has a desire to be great and seeks out growth opportunities. Maddie is a hard-nosed guard who will compete against anyone. We can't wait to see her with our experienced backcourt."
Scarborough on Loyola:
"When I was thinking about where I wanted to go to college, I always knew when it felt right, I would know, and I got that feeling as soon as I talked to the coaching staff at Loyola. I am a person who doesn't like to settle and, after speaking to the coaches, I feel that they will push me to be the best I can be. More importantly, they are building an amazing program that I think I will fit into well. Loyola is also an amazing academic school that will prepare me fully for my adult years after college."
Fresh off its first winning campaign since the 2012-13 season, Loyola is slated to return an impressive core of 10 letterwinners in 2020-21, a group that is highlighted by three starters from a year ago.
