CHICAGO (November 17, 2020) – Loyola University Chicago head men's volleyball coach
Mark Hulse announced today the addition of four players to the program. Evan Markworth, Nicodemus Meyer, Klaudiusz Rydzy and Jaxon Schroeder will enroll in the fall of 2021 and be eligible to compete for the 2022 season.
"The class of 2021 brings some high-level local talent to our program with two guys from Illinois and two from Wisconsin," Hulse said. "We have been fortunate to get to know these four very well during an odd recruiting cycle, and we are excited to have these great young men, all of whom have very high potential, joining the program. The class brings a combination of size, explosiveness and talent that is hard to find, but also the work ethic needed to maximize that potential."
A look at the Loyola men's volleyball recruiting class follows.
Evan Markworth, 6-6, Outside Hitter, La Grange, Ill. (Lyons Township High School)
Played for Future 18 Elite and stood out with his play at the Boys Winter Championships qualifier held in Chicago last February … Helped Lyons Township earn the AVCA Team Academic Award.
Hulse on Markworth: "Evan is big, long skilled outside who impressed us not just with game, but with his love of the game. He has a nice skill set for his size and we think he is a guy who could come in, work hard, and really make a difference down the road."
Nicodemus Meyer, 6-10, Middle Blocker, Franklin, Wis. (Franklin High School)
Has a 7-foot-2-inch wingspan and helped Franklin High School to a pair of state tournament appearances … First Team All-Southeast Conference and Wisconsin Boys Volleyball Coaches Association Honorable Mention All-State pick in 2019.
Hulse on Meyer: "Nic brings some serious size to the gym, but also a competitive edge that will carry him a long way. We love that he has a basketball background and we look forward to seeing how high his ceiling can go as he turns his focus solely to volleyball."
Klaudiusz Rydzy, 6-4, Opposite, Northbrook, Ill. (Glenbrook North High School)
Selected for the 2020 USA Volleyball Boys Youth National Training Team.
Hulse on Rydzy: "Klaud has electric spring and athleticism as well as an ability to contribute at multiple positions. His physicality will allow him to contribute right away and we think his potential is through the roof."
Jaxon Schroeder, 6-7, Middle Blocker, Kimberly, Wis. (Kimberly High School)
Plays for Milwaukee Volleyball Club and was part of the 2019 Wisconsin state championship team.
Hulse on Schroeder: "Jaxon is still relatively new to the sport of volleyball, but he is long, athletic and has an outstanding work ethic. His rate of growth over the last 12 months has been tremendous and it is always great having someone with a state championship pedigree on the roster."
In an abbreviated 2020 campaign, Loyola posted a 7-11 overall record, winning two of its final three matches. The Ramblers return a talented cast for 2021, including American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Honorable Mention All-America and Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Newcomer of the Year
Cole Schlothauer, in addition to welcoming back two-time AVCA Honorable Mention All-America setter
