CHICAGO (December 2, 2020) – Janae Gonzales (Tolleson, Ariz./Sierra Linda), a junior on the Loyola University Chicago women's basketball team, has been highlighted as one of two featured student-athletes in this week's State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Spotlight.
Â
Gonzales saw action in all 29 games last season for head coach
Kate Achter's squad, starting in 21 contests.  She connected on a team-best 57 attempts from beyond the three-point arc en route to averaging 7.4 points and 2.6 rebounds. The sharpshooting guard etched her name into Loyola annals during a matchup with Detroit Mercy on November 5, 2019, connecting on a single-game record tying nine threes as part of a 29-point performance against the Titans.
Â
Out of Tolleson, Ariz., Gonzales sports a 3.55 cumulative grade-point average as a Multimedia Journalism major. Away from the court, she's involved in the
Rambler Alliance for Equity (RAE), a group of student-athletes, coaches, and administrators that seeks to effect positive change within and outside the University.
Â
In order to qualify for the State Farm MVC Scholar-Athlete Spotlight, student-athletes must carry a cumulative GPA of 3.20, complete at least one academic year at a Valley institution, and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. In addition to academic qualifications, student-athletes are evaluated on their campus involvement and community service.
