CHICAGO (March 11, 2020) – Following consultation with Illinois government and health officials, the Loyola University Chicago Athletics Department announced today that it is instituting a restricted attendance policy for remaining home events for the 2020 spring seasons, effective immediately.
Â
Only essential game personnel, student-athlete family members and television crews will be admitted for attendance at Loyola home events this spring. The decision was made to help minimize the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
Â
"Safety is of utmost importance and this decision, while unfortunate for our fans and student-athletes, is in everyone's best interest," Loyola Director of Athletics
Steve Watson said. "We will continue to monitor the situation in the coming days."
Â
In addition, it was announced today that Loyola's men's volleyball match against Princeton, which was scheduled for March 20 at Gentile Arena, has been cancelled following the Ivy League's decision to cancel the remainder of its spring sports seasons due to the outbreak of COVID-19.
