Loyola Unveils Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2026

Gordon Thomson, Lindsey Brewis and Eric Gehrig to be Inducted on March 7

CHICAGO - Gordon Thomson (track and cross country), Lindsey Brewis (track and cross country) and Eric Gehrig (men's soccer) will be inducted into the Loyola Chicago Athletics Hall of Fame on March 7, 2026, it was announced today. The trio will be recognized at halftime of the Ramblers' men's basketball game against George Washington that afternoon.

Gordon Thomson served as the head coach for LUC's cross country and track and field programs from 1985 to 1999, compiling 10 Midwestern Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year awards during his tenure. Thomson guided the Ramblers to a total of seven first-place finishes at the MCC Cross Country Championships, with the men's team earning titles in 1986, 1987, 1995, 1996 and 1997, and the women's team capturing crowns in 1991 and 1995.

Thomson produced 15 All-Americans during his time at Loyola, including fellow Hall of Famers Jim Westphal and Eddie Slowikowski, who both competed in the 1992 U.S. Olympic Trials. Outside of Loyola, he served as president of the United States Cross Country Coaches Association and was the men's development broad event chair for distances with USA Track & Field.

Lindsey Brewis is one of the most decorated female distance runners in Loyola history, highlighted by back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference cross country individual championships and Athlete of the Year honors in 2017 and 2018. Brewis placed 56th overall at the 2018 NCAA Cross Country Championships, the highest finish ever by a Loyola female athlete.

On the track, Brewis won MVC titles in the indoor and outdoor 5,000-meter events in 2019 and was a four-time All-MVC performer. An elite student-athlete, the Dearborn, Michigan, native was a four-time member of the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team and earned Academic All-District honors in 2018-19.

Eric Gehrig helped elevate and transform the men's soccer program as a standout from 2006 to 2009, leading the Ramblers to a pair of NCAA tournament berths, including the program's first-ever appearance in 2006. The three-time All-Horizon League First Team selection and 2008 NSCAA All-Region pick tallied 16 points on six goals and four assists during his junior season, marking the highest single-season total of his collegiate career.

The Chicagoland native appeared in 76 MLS matches while playing for the Columbus Crew and Chicago Fire from 2011 to 2016 and was named the Fire's Defender of the Year in 2015.

Tickets to see the inductees honored at halftime of the men's basketball game on Saturday, March 7, can be purchased at ramblertickets.com. Game time is set for 1 p.m. CT.
