Four Ramblers Earn Men’s Basketball All-MVC Accolades

Cameron Krutwig earns first team recognition for the second straight season

CHICAGO (March 3, 2020) – Four members of the Loyola University Chicago men's basketball team earned All-Missouri Valley Conference recognition for their outstanding play this season in helping the Ramblers to their third straight campaign with 20 or more wins.

Junior center Cameron Krutwig (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) collected First Team All-MVC accolades for the second straight season after picking up Third Team All-MVC status as a freshman in 2017-18. The 6-foot-9 center with the throwback game averaged 15.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.3 steals per game, while shooting 56.9 percent (198-for-348) from the field. He is on the pace to become the first player in Valley history to rank in the top five in the league in scoring, rebounding, assists and field goal percentage and on December 18 set a Loyola milestone by becoming the first Rambler ever to record a triple-double with 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists against Vanderbilt.

Krutwig has posted nine double-doubles this season and when he nets 20 or more, the Ramblers are 6-0. Only the seventh player in Loyola men's basketball annals to accumulate over 1,300 points and 700 rebounds in his career, Krutwig averaged 20.0 ppg, 12.5 rpg and 3.5 apg in two games against regular-season champion Northern Iowa this year.

Redshirt junior Tate Hall (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield-Central/Indianapolis), a transfer from Division II University of Indianapolis capped an impressive debut season with the Ramblers by taking home Third Team All-MVC and MVC All-Newcomer Team designation. The 6-foot-6 guard/forward is on pace to post the highest scoring average by a Loyola newcomer since Aundre Jackson in 2016-17 (14.1 ppg) with 13.0 ppg, while also adding 3.9 rpg, 2.2 apg and 1.5 spg. A marksman from long range, Hall is converting 42.9 percent (57-for-133) of his three-point attempts and has scored 20 or more points on six occasions this season.

After bursting onto the scene with 14 points, nine rebounds, three assists and four steals against UC Davis in his Loyola debut on November 5, the lefthander has scored in double digits 21 more times, erupting for a season-best 28 points in a victory over Illinois State on February 19.

Marquise Kennedy (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) earned MVC All-Freshman Team accolades following an impressive rookie campaign in which he delivered 9.3 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 1.3 apg and 1.2 spg, draining 51 percent (107-for-210) of his field goal attempts. A dynamic and explosive playmaker, the 6-foot-1 freshman guard has helped Loyola to an 11-3 ledger when he scores 10 or more points this season.

The first Loyola true freshman to start a season opener since Milton Doyle in 2013-14, Kennedy scored 16 or more points five times, including a season-best, 20-point performance in a victory over Evansville on January 11. Kennedy is the fourth Rambler to earn MVC All-Freshman Team status since the start of the 2017-18 season, joining Cameron Krutwig (2017-18), Lucas Williamson (2017-18) and Cooper Kaifes (2018-19).

Lastly, junior Lucas Williamson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) was chosen to the MVC All-Defensive Team. A lockdown defender, the 6-foot-4 junior guard routinely has drawn the assignment of guarding the opposition's top perimeter scoring threat and done a masterful job. Williamson, who is tallying 1.5 spg this season, helped shut down First Team All-MVC selection AJ Green of Northern Iowa, limiting him to just 12-for-35 (.343) shooting in two games this year.

Loyola (21-10, 13-5 MVC) carries the No. 2 seed into this weekend's MVC Championship in St. Louis. The Ramblers, who are seeking their third straight postseason berth and second NCAA tournament bid in the last three years, will face either Valparaiso or Evansville in the Arch Madness quarterfinal round Friday night at 6 p.m. CT.
