CHICAGO (April 9, 2020) – Loyola University Chicago sophomore
Lorenza Martinez (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels) has been named to the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete Team, it was announced on Thursday. Martinez earned Honorable Mention accolades.
A native of Menomonee Falls, Wis., Martinez put together a standout sophomore campaign in Rogers Park, closing the year with a team-low 78.0 stroke average across 16 rounds of play. She recorded a team-best 12 rounds in the 70s, highlighted by a season-low 72 as part of a 226 (76-78-72) at the Redbird Invitational. Martinez picked up a pair of top-10 finishes, placing ninth at both the Loyola Fall Invitational (80-79-74=233) and Braun Intercollegiate (78).
A 2018-19 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar, Martinez sports a 3.93 cumulative grade-point average as an undecided major in Loyola's College of Arts & Sciences.
The criteria for the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team parallels the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) standards for its Academic All-America program. Nominees must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale), while the student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institutions and must have participated in at least 50 percent of her team's rounds.
