Loyola Announces Cancellation Of Lakefront Invitational

Ramblers plan to hold popular cross country race in 2021 season

CHICAGO (July 28, 2020) – Due to continuing health and safety concerns due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and in consultation with race organizers Tom Cooney, Bob Vigars and the Ramblers' cross country staff, Loyola University Chicago announced today that the 2020 Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational college cross country races have been canceled. Last fall, the event drew 50 college teams from across the United States and Canada to Montrose Beach, a one-of-a-kind setting for cross country races.

"The health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans are always our top priority," Loyola Director of Athletics Steve Watson said. "This was an extremely difficult decision to make, especially regarding an event that means so much to our cross country program and is its only home event of the year."

One of the most popular cross country events in the Midwest, last fall was the 42nd running of the Loyola Lakefront Invitational, with the Rambler women finishing runner-up, while the men captured fifth place. Tarynn Cullings turned in a noteworthy performance, crossing the finish line in 18:03.07 to claim 11th place overall in the women's 5k race.

Information on the 2021 Loyola Lakefront Invitational will come at a later date.
