Anneka Murrin Featured In MVC Scholar-Athlete Spotlight

Junior currently pursuing degree in Exercise Science

CHICAGO (September 23, 2020) – Anneka Murrin (Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth), a junior on the Loyola University Chicago women's cross country and track & field team, has been recognized as one of two featured student-athletes in this week's Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Spotlight.

Murrin is coming off a breakout sophomore campaign in which she established herself as one of the league's top distance runners.  She turned in the top performance of her young career at last year's MVC Cross Country Championship, winning the women's 5k race in 18:00 en route to being named The Valley's Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year, leading Loyola to its first MVC team title in program history.

A native of Yarmouth, Maine, Murrin carried momentum over into the indoor track & field season, taking home All-MVC accolades following a third-place finish in the mile run at the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, where she clocked the seventh fastest time in the event in program history (4:53.64).

In the classroom, Murrin holds a sparkling 3.82 cumulative grade-point average as an Exercise Science major.  She was named the MVC's Women's Scholar Athlete of the Year following the cross country campaign and also collected Scholar-Athlete Team honors following the track & field season.

To qualify for the MVC Scholar-Athlete Spotlight, student-athletes must carry a cumulative GPA of 3.20, complete at least one academic year at a Valley institution, and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.  In addition to academic qualifications, student-athletes are evaluated on their campus involvement and community service.
