CHICAGO (October 16, 2021)
Â
In Short…Â
Four Ramblers scored goals in the 5-1 win over Evansville tonight, which helps the Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team stay in the second-place spot in the Missouri Valley Conference. This brings the team's record to 7-3-1 overall and 4-1-1 against MVC opponents. This is the first time since Sept. 28, 2008, against Cleveland State University where the Ramblers scored five goals in one game.Â
Â
Head Coach Neil Jones Thoughts…
"The boys were really hungry tonight. We took a really tough result against Missouri State last week. We had a good week of training. The boys have been dialed in. I would say that first half performance was one of our best of the season so far."
Â
How It Happened
Loyola Chicago had control of the game from the start.
Julian Cisneros started the scoring for the Ramblers with his third goal of the season in the ninth minute. He continued to add to the team's offensive pressure as he found the back of the net for the second time tonight, resulting in a 2-0 lead for the Maroon & Gold and his fourth goal of the season.Â
Â
The fun didn't stop there. The Ramblers continued to apply pressure on the Aces' defense, which resulted in a foul in the box and a penalty kick for Loyola.
Billy Hency took the shot for the Ramblers, beating out the Aces' goalkeeper to the left post to give Loyola a 3-0 lead.Â
Â
As if three goals weren't enough for the first half,
Oscar Dueso added to the stat sheet, registering an unassisted goal in the 30th minute after Evansville's keeper was unable to grab the ball in front of the net.  This gave Loyola a 4-0 advantage heading into the second half.Â
Â
Two minutes in, the Ramblers picked up where they left off at the half as
Lukas Ender recorded a goal in the 47th minute to give Loyola the 5-0 lead. Although the Aces were able to grab one goal, it wasn't nearly enough to take control of the game as the final score stayed at 5-1.Â
Â
Looking At The Numbers
- The two shots Cisneros put on goal resulted in scoring for the Ramblers. He finished tonight's match with his third and fourth goals of the season to kick off scoring.Â
- Hency and Dueso continue to be the offensive force for Loyola. At least one of these two players were involved in every goal scored for the Ramblers.
