CHICAGO (October 27, 2021) – Jake Baughman, who was a member of the Loyola University Chicago men's basketball program as a player during its recent run of success, has been hired as the team's director of player development, head coach
Drew Valentine announced today. Baughman will assist the coaching staff with scouting and other administrative duties in his new role.
"Jake has been such a valuable member of the Loyola Basketball Family for the past five years and we couldn't be happier that he will be starting his career in the profession with our staff," Valentine said. "He's an incredibly bright basketball mind and he is as loyal and hard working as anyone I've been around. Jake will be an incredible resource for our program. Welcome home!"
During his five seasons on the Loyola roster, Baughman was part of 117 victories, three Missouri Valley Conference regular season championships, a pair of MVC Tournament titles, three postseason appearances, two NCAA Sweet 16's, a NCAA Final Four and a National Invitation Tournament (NIT) berth.
Baughman appeared in 42 contests during his playing career and Loyola was a perfect 8-0 when he scored a point. Last season, he netted three points in a victory over Chicago State.
Off the court, Baughman was a standout in the classroom and was a member of the MVC Honor Roll as well as the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court.
Loyola is coming off a 26-5 season in 2020-21 in which it established a school record with 16 conference wins. The Ramblers finished the season ranked No. 12 in the final Ferris Mowers Coaches Top 25 Poll, reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament and were also ranked as high as No. 17 in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll.
