CHICAGO (November 10, 2021) – Just under two weeks removed from a terrific showing at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship, the Loyola University Chicago cross country teams will continue the postseason on Friday at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Iowa City, Iowa.
Action at the University of Iowa's Ashton Cross Country Course is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with the women's 6k, while the men's 10k will follow at 12 p.m. Big Ten Network+ will provide live coverage of both races. Loyola women's side, which enters the week at No. 6 in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Midwest Region Poll, charges into the regional meet fresh off capturing its third straight Valley title at the MVC Championship back on October 29 in Normal, Ill. The Ramblers became just the fourth program in league annals to win three straight conference titles.
Leading the way for the Maroon & Gold was senior
Anneka Murrin, who became the first female student-athlete in MVC history to win three consecutive individual conference titles. Graduate student
Mimi Reimers (2
nd) and the senior pairing of
Kathleen Simms (4
th) and
Claire Hengesbaugh (6
th) also finished in the top six, joining Murrin as First Team All-MVC honorees.
The Rambler men recorded their top finish at the MVC Championship since 2013, battling to a third-place finish. Senior
Chantz Visse spearheaded the attack, continuing a terrific campaign by placing fourth overall en route to securing First Team All-Valley accolades. Freshman
Gabe Smit (16
th) and senior
Blake Buysse (20
th) also notched top-20 finishes for Loyola on the final leaderboard.
The top two teams in each race at the NCAA Midwest Regional, along with the top four individuals not on an advancing team from each race, will advance on to the NCAA Cross Country Championship in Tallahassee, Fla. on Saturday, November 20.
