Sitori Tanin (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday. Tanin is receiving the first weekly league honor of her career and is the second Rambler this season to earn Newcomer of the Week accolades, joining
Bre Hampton-Bey.
Tanin impressed as Loyola picked up a pair of dominant road victories this past weekend over Evansville, averaging 12.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.0 blocks, and 1.5 steals against the Purple Aces.
In Friday's 67-49 win, the Middleton, Wis. native barely missed out on her first career double-double, finishing with 13 points (6-12 FGs, 1-2 FTs), a season-high nine rebounds, a block, and a steal. She was back it again on Saturday, adding 11 points (5-9 FGs, 1-3 FTs), seven rebounds, a season-best three assists, a block, and two steals as the Maroon & Gold rolled in a 61-31 triumph.
Tanin, who has scored in double figures in three straight outings, has played some of the best basketball of her young career over Loyola's last five games, operating at a red-hot 56.8 percent (21-for-37) from the field as she's averaged 9.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.0 blocks, and 1.6 steals.
Currently sitting at 9-6 overall and 7-4 in MVC play, Loyola travels to Cedar Falls, Iowa this weekend for a two-game set with UNI, February 19-20.
