NASHVILLE (March 5, 2021)
In Short
Lipscomb (6-6) jumped on the board early and then added three runs in the third inning to put the game away in a 5-0 win over Loyola University Chicago (1-7) this afternoon at the Purple & Gold Challenge.
How It Happened
Lipscomb jumped on the board first, thanks to a double from Olivia Ward that scored Presley Leebrick in the bottom of the first inning for the first run of the day. The Ramblers would try to strike back in the top of the second with a double down the left field line by
Amelia Thomas, but she would be stranded on third to end the inning.
The Bison would strike again, this time for three runs in the bottom of the third, to seal the outcome. Kyndall Crawford' bases-clearing triple down the left field line scored three insurance runs, as Lipscomb bumped its lead to 4-0.
Loyola's best scoring opportunity came in the top of the sixth when
Abby Brown walked to lead off the inning and promptly stole second. Two outs later,
Allyson Ivey was drilled by a pitch before Thomas walked to load the bases with two outs, but Maddie Siemer worked out of the jam to keep the Ramblers off the board.
Lipscomb would tack on its final run in the sixth inning when Amy Vetula was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in a run.
A Look at the Numbers
- Ameila Thomas and Abbey Jacobsen tallied Loyola's only hits on the afternoon.
- Maddie Siemer allowed only two hits and struck out six in a complete-game victory for Lipscomb.
