Loyola University Chicago (2-7) used a six-run third inning to take the lead and break the game open en route to a 10-1 victory over Oakland (0-3) today at the Purple & Gold Challenge. The Ramblers have won two of their last three outings.
How It Happened
Oakland struck first when Jen Krizka smacked a one-out single in the top of the first inning to score Madison Jones, who has hit by a pitch earlier in the inning.Â
The score would stay that way until Loyola exploded for six runs in the bottom of the third. Back-to-back doubles from
Allyson Ivey and
Nova Sinskul opened the inning and
Hannah Nalley followed with a RBI single to put the Ramblers ahead for good and later in the inning,
Tori Boysen and
Abbey Jacobsen cracked run-scoring singles as part of the big inning.
Loyola put the game away in the bottom of the fourth by pushing across four runs, highlighted by Jacobsen's second RBI single of the game.
A Look at the Numbers
- Loyola ripped 11 hits on the day, with three Ramblers posting multi-hit performances – Ivey (2-for-3), Sinskul (2-for-2) and Jacobsen (2-for-3).
- Seven of the Ramblers' nine starters had at least one hit.
- Right-hander
Sydney Ruggles scattered four hits and struck out three in 5.0 innings of work to earn her second win of the season.
