Loyola Can’t Hang On In Extra Innings, Falls To Lipscomb, 2-1

Ebeling drives in Loyola's only run

NASHVILLE (March 6, 2021)

In Short
Madison Ebeling's RBI double in the top of the 10th inning gave Loyola University Chicago (2-8) a one-run lead, but Lipscomb (8-7) roared back and scored twice in the bottom half of the frame to escape with a 2-1 victory this afternoon at the Purple & Gold Challenge.

How It Happened
The Ramblers battled nine scoreless innings with the Bison before Loyola pushed across a run.

Under international tie-breaker rules, Abbey Jacobsen started the inning on second base and moved to third on Teagan Sopczak's sacrifice bunt before Ebeling poked a double down the left field line for the first run of the game.

Loyola had a chance to add to the lead in the 10th, but Ebeling was thrown out at the plate trying to score on Allyson Ivey's single, to end the threat.

The Bison didn't wait long before they answered with a double of their own to left center by Presley Leebrick to bring in Makayla Alvey to tie the game at one apiece in the bottom of the 10th. With one out on the board and a runner on second, Lipscomb would finish the game when Olivia Ward struck a double to right center bringing Leebrick in for the winning run (2-1).

A Look at the Numbers
  • Loyola tallied six hits on the day, with two Ramblers having multiple hits – Ebeling, who went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Amelia Thomas (2-for-4).
  • Four of the Ramblers nine starters had at least one hit.
  • Ramblers starting pitcher Madison Veres only allowed two hits with two strikeouts through 4.1 innings of work.

Up Next
Loyola will return tomorrow for the final day of the Purple and Gold Challenge to face Lipscomb at 11 a.m.
