CHICAGO (July 15, 2021) – For the third time in as many seasons, Loyola University Chicago senior
Riley DeMeulenaere (Brookfield, Wis./Marquette High School) has been selected Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced on Thursday. DeMeulenaere, who will move on to the national ballot, is the first three-time Academic All-District honoree in program history.
A native of Brookfield, Wis., DeMeulenaere enjoyed a terrific final campaign in Rogers Park, seeing action exclusively during the track & field season. He took home All-Missouri Valley Conference honors in a pair of events at the MVC Indoor Championships, placing third overall (8:30.82) in the 3,000m while also helping the Maroon & Gold's distance medley relay to a third-place finish (10:07.50) of its own.
In his final appearance as a Rambler at the MVC Outdoor Championships, DeMeulenaere clocked a personal-best 9:00.37 en route to a runner-up finish in the 3,000m steeplechase.
No stranger to recognition for his work in the classroom, DeMeulenaere was named CoSIDA Academic All-America last season, becoming just the third student-athlete in Rambler annals to earn the accolade. He is a four-time MVC Scholar-Athlete honoree and was also tabbed an All-Academic selection by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in 2018-19.
To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable). This honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
