Billy Hency Tabbed CoSIDA Academic All-America

Junior becomes fourth student-athlete in program history to receive distinction

CHICAGO (July 5, 2021) – Billy Hency (Fenton, Mo./Rockwood Summit), a junior midfielder on the Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team, has been selected as Academic All-America by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  Hency was named a Second Team honoree, marking the third consecutive season that a Rambler has been recognized by the organization.

One of only three Missouri Valley Conference student-athletes to earn the honor, Hency is just the fourth Rambler in program history to be named CoSIDA Academic All-America, joining Markian Zyga (2008), Will Martin (2010), and Marius Kullmann (2018-19).

Out of Fenton, Mo., Hency enjoyed a decorated season this past spring, becoming the second Rambler in as many years to be voted the MVC Player of the Year in addition to being tabbed as The Valley's Midfielder of the Year and a First Team All-MVC honoree.

Also highlighted as a First Team All-West Region selection by the United Soccer Coaches, the 5-foot-10 midfielder was prolific in the offensive third, firing home a team-high six goals and dishing out four assists en route to closing the year as the Maroon & Gold's overall points leader (16).  He netted a pair of game-winning goals and finished a perfect 3-for-3 from the penalty spot.

Hency, a two-time MVC Scholar-Athlete selection for his career, boasts a 3.73 cumulative grade-point average as a supply chain management major in Loyola's Quinlan School of Business.
