CHICAGO (August 25, 2021) – Matchups with four postseason qualifiers from a year ago and meetings with a pair of local powerhouses headline the 2021-22 Loyola University Chicago women's basketball non-conference schedule, which was announced on Wednesday by Ramblers' head coach
Kate Achter. The Maroon & Gold are slated to appear at Gentile Arena five times during non-conference play.
"We're very excited about this year's non-conference schedule," Achter commented. "The goal was to schedule a rigorous enough slate to prepare our women for the strength of The Valley. With four opponents who experienced postseason play last year and a number of other very solid mid-majors, we look to learn a lot about the toughness and depth of our roster. Most importantly, we eagerly look forward to welcoming our terrific fans back to Gentile Arena and having their enthusiastic support."
Loyola raises the curtain on the 2021-22 slate on November 9 when it entertains Jesuit rival Detroit Mercy in Rogers Park. After meeting the Titans, road matchups with DePaul (Nov. 12) and Northwestern (Nov. 17) await before the Ramblers return home ahead of Thanksgiving to host Chicago State on November 20.
Following a visit from Miami (Ohio) on November 28, the Maroon & Gold begin a grueling stretch that sees them play four of their final six non-conference contests away from the friendly confines of Gentile Arena. That run begins with a two-game trip out east for clashes with Dartmouth (Dec. 3) and Vermont (Dec. 5). Just three days after battling the Catamounts, Loyola is back in Rogers Park to play host to in-state foe Eastern Illinois (Dec. 8) ahead of a road tilt with reigning Mid-American Conference Tournament champion Central Michigan on December 11.
After 10 days away from head-to-head competition for final exams, Loyola is back on the road when it travels to Cleveland State (Dec. 21). The Ramblers close out their 11-game non-conference schedule by welcoming Purdue Northwest to Gentile Arena on December 28.
Set to begin her sixth season at Loyola, Achter, who led the Ramblers to their first postseason appearance in program history in 2020-21, returns an experienced nucleus of 11 letterwinners who accounted for just over 81 percent of the team's scoring last season. That group includes First Team All-MVC forward
Allison Day, reigning MVC Freshman of the Year guard
Maya Chandler, MVC All-Freshman Team forward
Sitori Tanin, and MVC All-Newcomer Team guard
Bre Hampton-Bey.
