Surging Loyola Set For Wednesday Night Tilt At Bradley

Ramblers swept season series from Braves last spring

CHICAGO (September 27, 2021) – Coming off a thrilling win over the weekend, the Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team (4-2-1, 1-0-1 MVC) will look to extend its unbeaten run to four games on Wednesday when it heads back out on the road to battle in-state rival Bradley.  Kickoff from Shea Stadium in Peoria, Ill. is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Last Time Out: Lukas Ender scored his first career goal in the 97th minute of play to push Loyola past Drake, 2-1, in overtime on Saturday at Loyola Soccer Park.  Fabian Becerra opened the scoring in the 21st minute, heading home his first goal of 2021, before TC Anderson put the visitors back on level terms with a headed effort of his own in the 83rd minute.  Marcel Kampman registered three saves in goal for Loyola.

vs. Bradley: Led by veteran head coach Jim DeRose, Bradley is coming off a 4-3 overtime win on the road against SIUE on Saturday, which snapped a four-game skid and moved the Braves to 2-5-0 (1-1-0 MVC).

After going 2-7-2 (1-6-1 MVC) last spring, DeRose's side was picked fifth in the MVC Preseason Poll, with Bryce Logan garnering Preseason All-Valley accolades.

Logan has been a mainstay in goal for Bradley this season, playing in every minute of all seven games en route to a 1.67 goals against average.  In the offensive third, the pairing of Jack Douglas and Pepe Mellado have each scored twice, with Douglas also dishing out an assist.  Frances Pettinaroli has a team-best two helpers to his name.

Series Stuff: Bradley owns a 15-11-2 (.571) edge in 28 previous matchups between the Ramblers and Braves, a series that dates back to a 4-0 Bradley win on September 19, 1981.  The Ramblers have rattled off three straight wins in the series, highlighted by a season sweep this past spring.

When the two teams met in Rogers Park on March 14, goals from Becerra and Tyler Biggs sent the Maroon & Gold to a comfortable 2-0 win.  The return matchup at Shea Stadium on March 31 didn't lack for drama, as Billy Hency and Andrew Mitchell saw their first-half goals canceled out by strikes from Saadiq Mohammed and Jack Douglas before Michael Hong scored 68 seconds into overtime as Loyola escaped with a 3-2 triumph.

Up Next: Loyola welcomes SIUE to Loyola Soccer Park on Sunday, October 3.
