Crawford Paces Loyola Attack To Close Hoosier Collegiate Invitational

Junior cards team-low 71 as Ramblers place 10th on team leaderboard

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (September 6, 2021) – Junior Timmy Crawford turned in the low round of the day for the Loyola University Chicago men's golf team as the Ramblers wrapped up play at the Hoosier Collegiate Invitational in Bloomington, Ind. today.

Loyola posted a final-round 302 to land 10th on the final team leaderboard at 894 (299-293-302), finishing in front of Missouri Valley Conference rivals Bradley (14th; 311-319-328=958) and Evansville (15th; 324-315-332=971).

Cincinnati (283-288-287=858) and Illinois (291-282-285=858) shared the top spot in the team race, while host Indiana's Drew Salyers captured individual medalist honors with an five-under-par 208 (68-72-68).

"It's hard to get too upset about this week," Loyola head men's golf coach Erik Hoops commented.  "The guys fought hard on one of the tougher collegiate courses in the Midwest.  Sure, we would have liked to have been a few spots up the leaderboard, but some weeks you just aren't as sharp as you need to be to compete."

Coming off a sophomore season that saw him earn a runner-up finish at the MVC Championship this past April, Crawford capped off the first event of his junior campaign with an impressive final-round effort, firing an even-par 71 that was highlighted by three birdies on the back nine.  The Arlington Heights, Ill. native earned a share of 47th place with a three-round total of 230 (78-81-71).

Graduate student Devin Johnson was the top Rambler on the individual leaderboard, tying for 24th with a 222 (71-73-78) following a round of 78 today at The Pfau Golf Course (par 71, 7,265 yards).  Redshirt senior Tyler Anderson (77-72-76) and junior Dylan Ellis (73-75-77) wrapped up play as part of a four-way tie for 36th at 225.  Anderson posted a final-round 76, with Ellis closing just a stroke back on the day with a 77.  Graduate student Ryan Magee tied for 55th after shooting an 81 that brought his 54-hole tally to 234 (80-73-81).

"We're really looking forward to the rest of the fall slate," Hoops added.  "We're going to see a lot of MVC schools and will know where we shake out against that competition."

Loyola returns to the course in just under two weeks, September 17-18, heading to Muncie, Ind. for the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational.
