IOWA CITY, Iowa (January 15, 2022) – Four Ramblers recorded new collegiate personal bests as the Loyola University Chicago track & field teams resumed the indoor portion of their 2021-22 schedule today at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa.
The senior pairing of
Ian Cummings and
Stephen Pipilas each posted the top times of their collegiate careers in the men's 3,000m run, finishing sixth and seventh, respectively. Cummings crossed in 8:40.19, while Pipilas came through two seconds back at 8:42.20.
Junior
Ayoub El-Ashmawi led the charge for Loyola in the sprinting events, notching a personal-best 22.58 in the 200m dash that saw him finish second in his heat and 18
th overall. The freshman duo of
Petra Cokaric (13
th; 1:00.99) and
Erin Connors (15
th; 1:01.30) also registered second-place finish in their respective heats in the women's 400m dash.
Competing in the women's long jump, sophomore
Lovie Annafi unleashed an indoor personal best on her first leap of the day, reaching 17-05.50 (5.32m) to take fourth, the top finish by a Missouri Valley Conference competitor in the event. Senior
Sarah Olojo rounded out the day with a fourth-place finish of her own in the women's triple jump, registering a leap of 37-09.50 (11.52m).
In the women's mile run, Loyola received a pair of strong showings from freshmen, as
Grace Kuhn (14
th; 5:13.93) and
Aiden Grasse (20
th; 5:22.78) earned top-20 finishes, with Grasse shaving five seconds off her high school personal best. On the men's side of the event, senior
Sean O'Connell checked in 10
th overall in 4:18.89. Competing in the women's 1,000m run, freshman
Kelly Andrews (3:06.92) and junior
Emma Murray (3:07.81) posting a 3-4 finish for the Maroon & Gold.
Loyola visits South Bend, Ind. on Saturday, January 22 for the Notre Dame Invitational.
