In Short
A header goal from senior midfielder
Marc Torrellas in the 82nd minute pulled Loyola University Chicago (6-2-5) even in a 1-1 draw against Cleveland State (9-2-3) Wednesday night at Loyola Soccer Park. With the win, Loyola extended its home unbeaten streak to eight consecutive games (6-0-2).
Â
How It Happened
Loyola trailed at halftime for the first time this season after a slow start with both sides working to get comfortable in the attacking zone.
Â
Cleveland State struck first, finding the back of the net in the 30th minute as Jannis Schmidt connected with the Vikings' leading scorer Bojan Kolevski for his eighth goal.
Â
Despite the 1-0 halftime deficit, the Ramblers outshot the Vikings 11-3 with four corner kicks during the opening 45 minutes of play.
Â
Loyola dominated possession in the second half with a barrage of shot attempts and crosses played into the box. The Ramblers put four shots on target, including a header from senior
Billy Hency in the 67th minute that bounced off the crossbar. It appeared Loyola had found the equalizer on a great run, capped by a goal from
Oscar Dueso, but it was waved off with an offsides call.
Â
Cleveland State nearly took a 2-0 lead moments prior to Loyola tying the match, but goalkeeper
Simon Jillson recorded a massive save to win a 1-on-1 play against Kolevski.
Â
In the 82nd minute, the pressure finally broke through the Vikings wall of defense when Torrellas timed up a perfect header from Hency. The goal came off a set piece following a yellow card handed out to Cleveland State.
