Loyola Cross Country Heads East For Atlantic 10 Championships

Ramblers begin competition in Mechanicsville, Va. at 9 a.m. (CT) Saturday

CHICAGO (October 28, 2022) – Following multiple impressive showings during the regular season, the Loyola University Chicago cross country teams begin postseason competition on Saturday as they make their debut at the Atlantic 10 Conference Cross Country Championships in Mechanicsville, Va.

Action from Pole Green Park is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. (CT) with the running on the women's 5k, while the men's 8k wraps up the morning at 9:50 a.m. (CT).  ESPN+ will provide full coverage of both races.  A link to watch, along with those for live results and to the Atlantic 10's Information Center, can found to the right.

Loyola's men's team enters the postseason on a tear, having picked up team titles in each of its last three meets.  None of those showings were more impressive than the Ramblers' most recent outing, as the Maroon & Gold took home the team crown amidst a stacked field at the Bradley Pink Classic back on October 14.  Graduate students Ryan Martins and Chris Devaney finished first and second, respectively, to pace Loyola, with Martins taking home Atlantic 10 Men's Performer of the Week, while freshman Jason Clayton was tabbed the A-10 Men's Rookie of the Week.

Following its performance in Central Illinois, the Ramblers climbed up to No. 5 in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Midwest Region Poll, achieving the top regional ranking in program history.

On the women's side, sophomore Nora Wollen will look to continue a terrific second season in Rogers Park, after posting back-to-back 6k personal bests, the second of which saw her place 12th overall at the Bradley Pink Classic.  The Ramblers will also look to lean on the experience of Kathleen Simms and Claire Hengesbaugh, both of whom took home All-Missouri Valley Conference honors a season ago as Loyola captured a third straight Valley title.

After returning from the East Coast, the Loyola will be back in action on Friday, November 11 at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Columbia, Mo.
