TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Feb. 12, 2022) – The Loyola University Chicago softball team was back in action today as they competed in the second day of the JoAnne Graf Classic hosted by No. 6 Florida State. During today's contests, the Ramblers faced the Bears of Mercer and the Seminoles of Florida State.
GAME 1: RAMBLERS VS BEARS
Following a successful contest against Mercer yesterday, the Ramblers took that same momentum into today's game. They came out swinging, and it paid off from the start. Loyola was able to record the first run of the day in the second inning as senior
Nova Sinskul made her way home off a hit by
Teagan Sopczak.
From there, the Ramblers pushed forward, scoring three more runs before the Bears could get on the board. Although Mercer got on the board with two runs in the sixth, it wasn't enough for them to secure a win as the Ramblers won their second straight game 4-2.
Sinskul led the scoring efforts for the Ramblers as she brought in two runs during this game. Following behind her was sophomore
Ava Bieneman and junior
Amelia Thomas. Bringing their teammates in on their own hits were Sopczak and senior
Abbey Jacobsen, who each had an RBI in this game.
Freshman
Peyton Pepkowski started on the mound again for Loyola in this game. She stayed in the entire game, earning her first collegiate win wearing the Maroon and Gold.
GAME 2: RAMBLERS VS NO. 6 SEMINOLES
The Ramblers kept the momentum from their win against the Bears and brought it against this top-ranked team. At the top of the first inning, Loyola came out and scored two wins, giving them a chance right from the start. However, the Seminoles responded with two runs of their own, creating a new game heading into the second.
From there, Florida State took control of the game. They did not allow the Ramblers to score any more runs but added six more of their own, which resulted in a 2-8 loss for Loyola.
Scoring the runs in this game for the Maroon and Gold were scored by senior
Madison Ebeling and freshman
Haley Wallace. In this game, Wallace registered a home run, which was the first of her career.
