CHICAGO (February 2, 2022) – Just under two weeks removed from another day of countless personal-best showings, the Loyola University Chicago track & field teams will return to action this weekend at the prestigious Meyo Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind.

The two-day meet is slated to begin on Friday at 3 p.m. (CT) with action in the women's long jump inside the University of Notre Dame's Loftus Sports Center. Events on the track get underway at 3:30 p.m. (CT) with the women's 60m hurdles preliminaries. Saturday's packed schedule opens with the women's 3,000m run at 9 a.m. (CT).Â

Loyola will look to duplicate its success from two weeks ago at the Loftus Sports Center this weekend, where it posted a trio of new marks to the program's all-time top-10 leaderboards in addition to the aforementioned personal bests.Â

Leading the way was senior
Kathleen Simms, who shaved just over two seconds off her previous top time in the 3,000m run, clocking in at 9:33.28 en route to a first-place finish that saw her claim Missouri Valley Conference Female Track Athlete of the Week accolades. Simms' mark currently ranks second on the MVC's 3,000m run leaderboard. In total, 20 members of Loyola's mid-distance and distance squads recorded new career bests at the meet.

Sophomore
Jayla Johnson continued the red-hot start to her second season in Rogers Park in the 60m hurdles, moving to second all-time in program history with a time of 8.96 that puts her sixth in The Valley as she paced a group of seven Rambler sprinters to clock the top times of their respective careers. Fellow sophomore
Jevan Terry entered the top 10 in the 60m dash, racing through in 7.03.

Following the Meyo Invitational, Loyola will split squads for the first time next weekend, February 11-12, when it sends athletes to both the GVSU Big Meet and the Iowa State Classic.
