Loyola Wraps Up Day 2 Of UNCG Invite With 1-1 Record Against Cavaliers and Bison

Loyola Softball loses to University of Virginia and defeats Bucknell University.

GREENSBORO, N.C. (Feb. 26, 2022) – Following a 1-1 start on to the UNCG Invitational on Friday, the Loyola University Chicago softball team was back in action for two games today as they took on the Cavaliers of Virginia and the Bison of Bucknell. After both games, the team ended the day with a 1-1 record.

GAME 1: RAMBLERS VS CAVALIERS
Despite the efforts from the Ramblers, this game did not go in their favor. The Cavaliers came out strong, scoring the first run of the game in the first inning. From there, they could not be stopped as they recorded seven more runs to defeat the Loyola 8-0.

Only two hits were registered in this contest, and they were by senior Madison Ebeling and freshman Riley Owens. From the mound, senior Sydney Ruggles started the game off for the Ramblers before freshman Peyton Pepkowski came into the game. Between those two and senior Bri Clifton, the Ramblers only got two strikeouts.

GAME 2: RAMBLERS VS THE BISON
The Ramblers forgot about their last game and came back onto the field with a new perspective. They came out swinging from the start, securing two runs in the first inning from Ebeling and freshman Haley Wallace. Then, Loyola struck again in the fifth as Ebeling scored another run to give the Ramblers a 3-0. Although the Bison were able to put themselves on the board, it wasn't enough to take over the game as the Maroon and Gold grabbed their second win of the invitational 3-1.

Ebeling was a force to be reckoned with as she brought in those two runs for the Ramblers. Although she only had one hit, she made the most of it by recording a double. She also stole one base, which was the only steal of the game. Along with Ebeling, senior Nova Sinskul and sophomore Jocelyn Currie helped out on offense, each bringing a runner home when they were at the plate.

On the mound, freshman Andie Broniewicz got the job done for the Maroon and Gold. She struck out seven of the 33 batters she faced, only walking three of them.

In the field, junior Amelia Thomas was the biggest asset today for the Ramblers. She ended the game with seven putouts. Following close behind her was fellow junior Tori Boysen, who added six putouts of her own. Racking up the most assists was Sinskul, who contributed five.

UP NEXT
