CHICAGO (March 2, 2022) – Ryan Schwieger (Matthews, N.C./Weddington/Princeton), a senior at Loyola University Chicago, has been named to the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Basketball All-Bench Team, it was announced today by the league office. Voting was conducted by the league's beat writers.
Â
A transfer from Princeton, Schwieger has been a valuable weapon off the bench in his first season at Loyola, averaging 8.9 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists per contest, while connecting on 44.3 percent (94-for-212) of his field goal attempts, 37.9 percent (39-for-103) of his three-point tries and 82.1 percent (32-for-39) of his tosses from the free throw stripe.
Â
Schwieger has scored in double digits off the bench on 10 occasions this season, and pumped in a season-best 24 points, hitting 9 of 10 shots from the field, to lift Loyola to a 79-74 victory over San Francisco on January 6 in Salt Lake City. He got off to a sizzling start, tallying 10 or more points in three of the first four outings of the year, including back-to-back, 22-point performances in wins against Chicago State and UIC in November.
Â
After seeing his production dip slightly during league play, Schwieger has bounced back in the last two contests, providing 12.5 ppg and shooting 57.1 percent (8-for-14) from the field and 50 percent (4-for-8) from beyond the arc.
Â
Loyola (22-7, 13-5 MVC), which tied for second place in the regular-season standings, will be the No. 4 seed at the MVC Championship and take on fifth-seeded Bradley in a quarterfinal round contest on Friday, March 4 at 2:30 p.m. CT.
