RALEIGH, N.C. (March 26, 2022) – The Loyola University Chicago track & field teams brought the opening weekend of their 2022 outdoor schedule to a close this afternoon, wrapping up competition at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C. In total, the Maroon & Gold concluded the three-day meet with seven personal bests in addition to four new marks on the program's all-time outdoor record boards.
Less than 48 hours after clocking the top 1,500m run time of his career, sophomore
Miguel Abaitua returned to the track in the 800m run. Out of Bilbao, Spain, Abaitua came up just three tenths of a second short of another new personal best, crossing in 1:53.32.
Also on the track, junior
Timothy Harris saw action in the 400m hurdles. A finalist in the event at last spring's MVC Outdoor Championships, Harris finished with a time of 58.54.
Competing in the long jump, sophomore
Melissa Parrella secured a top-15 finish. The Graz, Austria native unleashed a leap of 18-02.25 (5.54m) on her first attempt of the morning, ultimately placing 13
th overall.
Loyola is back in action closer to home on Saturday, April 2 when it heads down Interstate 55 to Normal, Ill. for the Redbird Invitational.
