WALNUT, Calif. (April 15, 2022) – Senior
Claire Hengesbaugh moved to second all-time in program history in the 5,000m run, while freshman
Jason Clayton clocked the fastest time by a Rambler in the men's 1,500m run since 2014 as the Loyola University Chicago track & field teams closed their stay at the Mt. SAC Relays and Bryan Clay Invitational this evening.
Â
Competing in the second of two heats of the 5,000m run at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., Hengesbaugh posted a personal best for the second time in as many outings in the event. The St. Charles, Ill. eclipsed her previous top time by nearly 20 seconds, coming through in 16:02.99 en route to a fifth-place finish. Hengesbaugh's showing from tonight, which unofficially sits atop the Missouri Valley Conference leaderboard, sees her pull within seven seconds of former Rambler Gina Valgoi's school record (15:55.56).
Â
Clayton continued his breakout debut campaign in the 1,500m run at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. Like Hengesbaugh, Clayton, who entered the week as The Valley leader in the event, turned in his second straight personal best showing, battling across with a time of 3:43.25 that sees him rocket up to fourth all-time in program history.
Â
In the women's section of the 1,500m run, senior
Anneka Murrin ran a season-best 4:27.33.
