Men's Volleyball Hosts Lindenwood In MIVA Quarterfinal

Loyola Men's Volleyball will host Lindenwood in this opening round of the MIVA tournament.

CHICAGO (April 16, 2022) -- The Loyola University Chicago men's volleyball team is ready for the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association tournament as they host Lindenwood University in the quarterfinal round. The Ramblers were the No. 2 seed heading into this match while the Lions earned the No. 7 seed.

LAST TIME OUT
The Ramblers hosted Ohio State to conclude the MIVA regular season with hopes of ending the regular season on top. After a hard-fought, three-set battle, the Buckeyes were the ones who left Gentile with the win.

LOOKING AT THE LIONS
Lindenwood played its final regular season match against No. 13 Lewis. The Lions took the No. 13 team to four sets, but ultimately lost to result in a seventh-place regular season finish.

The Lions have one of the best servers in the country in Diego    Negron. The outside hitter is 18th overall and No. 1 in the MIVA in aces, racking up .457 per set. He was also good enough to get All-MIVA First Team honors.

Kyle Deutschmann has been the main staple on defense for Lindenwood. He is 27th in the NCAA for the number of digs he earns per set with 1.92. He also received MIVA Defensive Player of the Week honors earlier this season.

Lindenwood has been a tough competitor all season long. They took sets from tough teams like Lewis, Loyola and Ball State. The Lions even pulled out a win against Ohio State.

The University recently announced that it is moving to become a Division I university. Although men's volleyball already plays as a Division I sport, they hope this helps with their recruiting efforts in the future.

WHEREABOUTS
This quarterfinal match is slated to begin at 5 p.m. in Gentile Arena on Loyola's campus with a live stream available on ESPN+.
