Loyola Wraps Up Valley Series Against The Beacons

Loyola Softball lost 6-2 to Valparaiso University.

CHICAGO (April 26, 2022) – With just a 48-hour turnaround, the Loyola University Chicago softball team was back on the field at Loyola Softball Park to finish their season series against Valparaiso University. Although these two teams were close in the first six innings, the Beacons ran away with it at the end, defeating Loyola and winning the series 2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first inning was an amazing start for the Ramblers. They were the first team on the board after Haley Wallace hit a single up the middle to bring Amelia Thomas across home plate.

Shortly after Loyola got on the board, the Beacons followed suit, scoring four unanswered runs. Although the Ramblers were walked with bases loaded in the fifth to make the score 4-2, it wasn't enough to make the final comeback as Loyola lost 6-2 to Valpo.

LOOKING AT THE NUMBERS
  • The Ramblers registered seven hits in today's game with two from Madison Ebeling and one from Wallace, Abbey Jacobsen, Sydney Barnett, Ava Bieneman and Riley Owens
  • With today's game, Barnett is on a five-game streak where she has registered at least one hit. This is the best performance she has had since putting on the Maroon and Gold.
  • Bieneman was the other Rambler to record a run after the Beacons' pitcher walked Abby Brown
  • Along with her two hits, Ebeling was the only Rambler to steal a base in today's game.
  • With Brown's walk and Wallace's hit, these two were the only ones to secure RBI's against Valpo today.
  • Peyton Pepkowski started on the mound for the Ramblers, finishing the game with all seven of the team's strikeouts. Andie Broniewicz came in during the last two innings, walking no batters.
  • Thomas finished the game yet again with the most putouts, getting seven Beacons out on her plays. Jacobsen was close behind her with six.
