CHICAGO (September 23, 2022) – Former Loyola University Chicago men's volleyball All-American and two-time Olympian
Thomas Jaeschke (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South), who turned pro following his junior year in 2015, announced that he has completed his undergraduate studies in finance after returning to campus this summer.
Jaeschke previously competed in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, where he captured a bronze medal with Team USA. After leading Loyola to back-to-back NCAA championships, he departed following his record-setting junior campaign to play for Asseco Resovia, one of the leading teams in Poland's professional league.
"Leaving school early was a very tough decision where I prioritized my dreams of becoming an Olympian and Olympic medalist over finishing school," Jaeschke said. "There were times I was not sure I'd ever finish. Life was pulling me in different directions, living overseas eight months out of the year made it tough to dedicate time towards my degree.
"I must credit [Director of Athletics] Steve
. Watson and my old coach Mark Hulse in helping me work towards my degree. They were always happy to help whenever I needed it. I would say being a two-time Olympian and an Olympic medalist are the things I'm most proud of but coming back and finishing school was a personal accomplishment that I hold very high up on that list. I am very proud of myself for graduating."
During his three-year playing career at Loyola, Jaeschke racked up 1,053 kills (3.63 kills per set) and 542 digs (1.87 digs per set), while hitting .372 (1,053-278-2,086), twice earning AVCA First Team All-America accolades. The outside hitter was named the 2015 AVCA Player of the Year.
