Quoting Coach Berkley
"I thought Duquesne played a really good match," said head coach
Amanda Berkley. "They passed really well and I generally think we have a good serving team but it was tough to point-score tonight. But I'm proud of the team for gritting through a win and finding ways to keep siding out and finding ways to point-score when it mattered at the end."

How It Happened
Despite Loyola holding the advantage for most of the set, the first frame needed extra points to determine a winner as there were 12 ties throughout the set. Borum gave Loyola its first set point at 24-23 on a kill, but the Dukes would answer right back. A Duquesne error gave Loyola it's second set point at 25-24, but would eventually close it out, 27-25, following kills from
Taylor Venuto and
Karlie McNabb.
Â
Facing an early hole in the second set, Loyola used a 6-0 run to take an 11-8 lead following another kill from McNabb, who finished the match with a team high 13 kills on the night. The Ramblers began to slowly build some separation from Duquesne, with McNabb's fifth kill of the set sealing the 25-18 decision.
Â
The Ramblers trailed for most of the third set until a 3-0 spurt pulled Loyola even at 20-all, prompting a timeout by the Dukes.
Anna Feldkamp started the run with a kill before teaming up with McNabb on a block. Barnes ended the run with an ace as Loyola pulled all square. Duquesne responded out of the timeout with two-straight points to take a 22-20 lead but three consecutive kills by McNabb gave Loyola its first lead at 23-22. Extra points were once again needed, but two-straight hitting errors by the Dukes gave Loyola match points. Feldkamp and
Emily Banitt teamed up for a block on the right side to cap the 28-26 decision and seal the Loyola sweep.
Â
The Ramblers are back in action Saturday afternoon to conclude the two-match series with Duquesne, with first serve slated for 2 p.m.
