Quoting Coach Berkley
"I'm proud of the team for turning up the service pressure in the sets that we won," said head coach
Amanda Berkley. "Credit to Duquesne. I thought they played really well this weekend. They made it tough for us and pushed us and that's something that we needed and we need to be able to respond just a little better in different moments."
Â
How It Happened
Duquesne took an early lead at 9-7 in the opening set and led the rest of the way, taking a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-18 victory. The Ramblers quickly responded, leading wire-to-wire in the second set to easily take the 25-10 victory and knot the match up at 1-all heading into the intermission.
Â
A kill by Borum gave the Ramblers the 5-4 edge in the third set, but an 8-1 run by the Dukes put the visitors up, 12-6. Loyola looked to rally after a kill by Feldkamp pulled the Ramblers with one at 18-17. Duquesne would answer, scoring the next four points to go up 22-17, and would keep the Ramblers at a distance to take the 25-20 victory and put the Ramblers a set from defeat.
Â
Loyola used a 6-1 run midway through the third set to put a gap between the two teams as Loyola built a 17-11 advantage.
Grace Hinchman served up one of Loyola's nine aces during the run while Borum and Taylor Ventuo each had a pair of kills. The Ramblers maintained the advantage until the final point, closing out a the 25-19 victory to force the match to a decisive fifth set.
Â
The Ramblers won the race to eight in the deciding set, as Feldkamp's kill put Loyola up 8-4. The Dukes would use a 3-0 run to get within a pair at 10-8, prompting a timeout by Coach Berkley. The timeout proved to be extremely effective, as Loyola won the final five points to pick up its 12
th consecutive victory with a 15-8 decision in the deciding set.
Â
Loyola wraps up the road portion of its regular season schedule next weekend as the Ramblers travel to Fordham Friday and Saturday, Nov. 3-4.
