CEDARVILLE, Ohio – For the second consecutive season, the Loyola Chicago men's and women's cross country teams were crowned Atlantic 10 champions.
Chris Devaney also repeated as the men's individual champion Saturday morning.
The last time an A10 school had both programs win back-to-back championships was in 2006 and 2007 when La Salle brought home the titles. Devaney's two consecutive individual championships also marks the first time an individual repeated since 2006.
Both squads dominated the competition. The men finished with 26 points, which was 33 points ahead of second-place La Salle, while the women finished with 65 points, which was 38 points ahead of George Washington in second.
Devaney's title time of 23:48.6 is the third fastest time by an A10 male runner in the history of the conference. His time also broke the course record by 15 seconds.
François Guilhot and
Woody Jerome posted personal records and took third and fourth, respectively. Guilhot came in at 24:08.68, while Jerome was on his heels with a time of 24:10.19.
The final two Rambler men tallying points in the team score placed inside the top-10.
Jason Clayton claimed eighth with a time of 24:27.60.
Sean O'Connell took 10
th running a PR of 24:31.27.
Just outside of Loyola's top-five runners were
Jake Phillips (22
nd) and
Cael Mulholland (25
th) placing in the top-25.
The Rambler women kept the momentum going with all five scorers placing in the top-25, which included two solid performances from a pair of rookies.
Delia McDade-Clay led Loyola with a sixth-place finish and a time of 21:15.79.
Finishing back-to-back in ninth and 10
th place was
Grace Kuhn and
Julia Isham, respectively. Both Ramblers clocked PRs Saturday. Kuhn ran a time of 21:30.39. Isham trailed closely at 21:31.95 in her first ever conference championship.
Grace Jostock finished inside the top-20 with a time of 21:47.74. She landed 17
th on the leaderboards, while the final Rambler scoring points took 23
rd.
Eileen Seebon continued her rookie success with a time of 21:54.80.
The A10 awards All-Conference accolades to runners in the top-15. For the Rambler men, Devaney, Guilhot, Jerome, Clayton, O'Connell, and Smit earn the A10 honors. For the Rambler women, McDade-Clay, Kuhn, and Isham win the award.
With the pair of titles, head cross country coach
Gavin Kennedy sweeps Coach of the Year for the second straight year. It also marks the fifth conference title Kennedy has won in three seasons.
The Ramblers will now set their sights on the NCAA Midwest Regional. They'll head down to Stillwater, Oklahoma on Nov. 10 looking to extend their season to the NCAA Championship on Nov. 18.
