Banitt's Kill Milestone Comes in Sweep at Fordham

She is the third Rambler to reach 1,000 career kills this season

NEW YORK – The Ramblers extended their win streak to 13 straight matches Friday night with a 3-0 sweep at Fordham. Emily Banitt joined the 1,000 kill club becoming the third Rambler to do it this season.

With the win, Loyola improves to 15-11 overall and 12-2 in A10 play.

"I thought the team responded well after the second set with service pressure and making our first serve in," said head coach Amanda Berkley. "Karlie had a really good match taking some high-level swings and being very aggressive. I'm proud of Emily getting her 1,000th kill and that speaks to her ability to find the floor and be a constant. Overall, I'm happy with another team win against a talented Fordham team."

How It Happened
The first set went back and forth with neither team gaining ground. It saw eight lead changes and 17 ties, ultimately ending 26-24 in favor for the Ramblers. Zoe Talabong made it 24-23 for Fordam with set point on the line, but a Banitt kill and attack error by the Rams swung the lead in favor for the Ramblers. Anna Feldkamp put a cap on the first set with a kill for a 26-24 edge.

In set two, the Ramblers strung together five straight points to pull away, 10-5. Karlie McNabb tallied two kills during the stretch. Fordham got within two of Loyola before two ball handling errors contributed to a 4-0 run for the Ramblers. Bree Borum put the final two Loyola points on the board with kills to win set two, 25-18.

The Rams hung with the Ramblers in the third set. Borum registered a kill midway through leading Loyola on a 4-1 run for a 14-10 lead. Fordham couldn't get the lead back down under two for the remainder of the set allowing Loyola to sweep the match with a 25-19 set three win.
