Loyola Chicago Takes on La Salle in Philly

Kick set for noon CT tomorrow

CHICAGO (Oct. 3, 2023) – The Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team travels to the city of brotherly love this Wednesday as it faces off against La Salle in Philadelphia, its fourth Atlantic 10 match of 2023.

WHEN AND WHERE
The two A-10 foes will take the field tomorrow (Oct. 4) at McCarthy Stadium. Kick is slated for noon CT.

NOTES
  • After being dealt just their second loss of 2023, the Ramblers enter Wednesday looking to get back in the win column.
  • Most recently, LUC slipped, 2-1, to VCU last Saturday as the program celebrated its class of seven graduating seniors.
    • Oscar Dueso scored the 'Blers lone goal in the 49th minute after sinking a PK attempt, knotting the match, 1-1. VCU scored the game-winner in the 63rd minute.
  • Despite falling to UIC and VCU at home, the Ramblers have yet to lose a match on the road this year (3-0-1).
  • Following Wednesday, LUC has four games remaining on its regular season schedule.
  • With four conference points, the Ramblers are in a tie with Saint Joseph's for the league's No. 8 spot.
  • Loyola Chicago was picked to finish third in the league, according to the A-10's preseason coaches' poll, after finishing as runner-up last season.
  • An impressive 10 separate Ramblers have recorded a goal while 11 have at least one assist this year.
  • With just nine goals allowed thus far, Loyola is tied for the No. 3 spot in the league in GA (1 pg).
  • On the opposite side of the field, Loyola Chicago averages 2.111 goals per-game, leading the conference.
  • The squad paces the A-10 and NCAA's ranking of shots per-game with 18.89. Oscar Dueso leads the team with 30.
  • Nationally, the team is tied for third in shots on-goal per-game (7.78).
  • Dueso (3.33 pg) and Torrellas (2.89 pg) are third and seventh, respectively, in the A-10's top shooters.
  • Lukas Ender, a defender, leads the team in minutes played with 788.
  • LUC is out-scoring its foes, 18-7.
  • The team is also out-shooting opponents, 170-69. The Ramblers have out-shot every foe in every match thus far.
  • LUC leads the A-10 in assists (21), goals (19), points (59), and shots (170).
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
  • With an overall mark of 4-3-3 and an A-10 record of 1-0-2, La Salle enters Wednesday unbeaten in its last two games.
  • The Explorers beat George Mason this past Saturday, 2-1, at home after drawing with URI, 1-1, the week prior on the road.
  • Americo Pereira leads the La Salle attack with seven points (three goals, one assist)
  • Filip Sabatti mans the Explorers' pipes. He's notched 32 saves, allowed 11 goals, earned four shutouts, owns a .744 save percentage, and has faced 110 shots.
THE HISTORY
  • In a series that dates to 1992, the Maroon and Gold own a 4-1-0 advantage in its all-time series with the Explorers.
  • The 'Blers only loss to La Salle came in the 1994 season - a 5-1 road loss.
  • In the most recent matchup, LUC beat La Salle, 4-2, on its home field.
    • After Oscar Dueso opened scoring in the 6th minute, Alex Moskal recorded his first career brace with two goals in the second half and Billy Hency logged three points with one goal and one assist to help propel Loyola to the win.
LOOKING AHEAD
After its date with the Explorers, Loyola Chicago will stay on the road as it takes on Dayton this Saturday (Oct. 7). LUC and the Flyers will kick off at 6 p.m. CT in Dayton.
