PEORIA, Ill. –
Sitori Tanin cashed in Loyola Chicago's first double-double of the season with a career-high 23 points and 14 rebounds while
Sam Galanopoulos added a career-best 27 points in the team's 67-62 overtime road win against Bradley.
The Ramblers remain undefeated on the road and picked up their second win of the season Thursday night inside the Renaissance Coliseum.
"Really proud of our team tonight," said Loyola head coach
Allison Guth. "I've got to be honest, we learned against Cleveland State that we were going to need to play for one another, but we had to find a way to get to the finish line. And to me, tonight was about learning how to win - that's what we really do have to figure out as a program. When you end up going into OT because of a couple of defensive deficiencies, letting a three ball go down, a lot of teams could pack it in at that point - being on the road. I think we learned a lot about our team, in our fortitude, to fight and figure out a way to get to the finish line tonight,"
How it Happened
After the Braves (1-2) scored the first bucket of the game, Loyola Chicago (2-2) took off on a 7-0 run and never relinquished the advantage through the 45 minutes of action. The Maroon and Gold shot the ball 58 percent (7-12) in the first frame and outscored Bradley, 15-8.
The Braves found some rhythm in the second quarter and outscored Loyola, 13-10, but Tanin's layup and
Kira Chivers' pair at the charity stripe helped the Ramblers hold a four-point lead (25-21) at halftime.
Galanopoulos drilled a triple coming out of the locker room, setting the tone for an intense second half. Both teams recorded their best shooting percentages of the night in the third frame as Loyola was 7-10 (70 percent) from the field and Bradley was 7-11 (64 percent). Â
Down by four (45-41) the Braves' defense came alive in the fourth quarter, limiting Loyola Chicago's offensive chances. Bradley owned an 8-2 run, including two 3-pointers, in the final two minutes of regulation to tie the score, 57-57, as the buzzer sounded.
In the overtime period, the Ramblers stepped it up on defense and gathered some clutch points at the stripe. Loyola sunk all eight of their free throws while limiting Bradley to just three field-goals. Battling adversity, the Maroon and Gold hung on, 67-62.
