Loyola Chicago Cruises Past Fordham

Three Ramblers record double-doubles

NEW YORK – Loyola Chicago picked up its 14th consecutive win with a 3-0 sweep at Fordham Saturday afternoon. It marked the 11th sweep of an Atlantic 10 opponent this season. The Ramblers were led by Bree Borum, Addie Barnes, and Karlie McNabb with double-doubles against the Rams.

With the win, Loyola improves to 16-11 overall and 14-2 in A10 play.

"I thought Karlie had another good offensive match as did Addie," said head coach Amanda Berkley. "They both mixed up their shots and found ways to score. Bree did a nice job of mixing up the offense and putting her hitters in good position to score. Proud of the team for taking care of business this trip!"

How It Happened
Loyola picked up right where it left off Friday night carrying to momentum into the first set of Saturday's action.

Despite back-to-back kills by Fordham at the start, the Ramblers rallied with three straight points to take a 4-2 edge and never looked back. Barnes recorded five kills in the first set, including one to spark a 3-0 run for an 11-5 lead midway through the first set. The Rams tried to chip away, but Emily Banitt led Loyola on a four-point stretch to pull away, 17-11. The Ramblers scored seven of the last nine points of the set winning, 25-15.

In set two, the Rams put up a fight forcing nine ties and five lead changes for the most competitive set of Saturday's contest. Fordham used four straight points to tie the second midway through, 12-12. The teams traded points until a Banitt kill regained the Loyola lead for good, 22-21. Two straight attack errors by Fordham made it set point, and Banitt struck again for the win, 25-22.

The Ramblers came out swinging in set three scoring four unanswered points to start the action. Olivia Lovett then sparked a 6-0 run with an ace opening up a 12-4 Loyola lead. The Rams didn't go down without a fight clawing back within one with the help of four straight aces. Taylor Venuto broke up the streak with a kill and Loyola went on to score the last five points to win, 25-19.
