CHICAGO (February 21, 2023) – Loyola (6-21, 1-13) will travel to Pittsburgh for Wednesday's Atlantic 10 clash with Duquesne (17-10, 7-7), marking the final road game of the regular season for the Ramblers. Tipoff against the Dukes will take place at 5 p.m. CT inside UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
LAST TIME OUT
Loyola fell 61-50 at George Washington last Saturday as
Sitori Tanin produced her third double-double in four games to lead the Ramblers with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Maya Chandler scored 14 points while
Anna Brown chipped in with 11. Loyola shot 56% in the second quarter after going 2 for 12 (17%) in the opening period, working its way back within six points at halftime, 30-24. After halftime, a corner three from Brown on the opening possession made it a three-point game but that would end up as close as the Ramblers would get on the day. GW answered with a 14-0 run to take control. Tanin's layup with 6:16 remaining in the game made the score 54-44 but Loyola couldn't close the gap. The Ramblers outrebounded the Colonials 36-35, but Loyola had 17 turnovers compared to seven committed by GW.
SERIES STUFF
Wednesday's tilt will mark the third meeting between the two programs. Loyola and Duquesne played twice in the 1992-93 season as members in the former Midwestern Collegiate Conference, with the Ramblers winning both matchups including a three-point victory (66-63) in Pittsburgh on Jan. 23, 1993. Loyola claimed an 11-point triumph (77-66) in the return trip to Chicago a month later.
SCOUTING DUQUESNE
After Saturday's 14-point win (83-69) over Richmond, Duquesne improved to 13-3 on its home floor this season. Megan McConnell led the team with a career-high 23 points and a career-high 18 rebounds, while Precious Johnson had 17 points and six rebounds. McConnell is one of two players in Division I to have multiple triple-doubles this year. Her 8.3 defensive rebounds per game rank eighth in the nation and her 9.9 rebounds per game rank 28th in the nation. The Dukes rank second in the A-10 in rebounds per game (41.3, 33rd in nation) and lead the A-10 in defensive rebounds per game (30.2, 12th in nation). Their field goal percentage defense (35.5%) ranks first in the conference and 15th nationally. Duquesne was picked ninth in the A-10 preseason poll.
