Â
In Short…
Sam Galanopoulos scored a career-high 20 points as Loyola drained a season-high 12 threes Wednesday night, but it wasn't enough for the Ramblers against Duquesne in a 71-61 setback at Cooper Fieldhouse.
Anna Brown finished with 15 points on 4-of-8 shooting from distance while
Kira Chivers tied her career-high total with 12 points.
Â
How it Happened
After leading all but 59 seconds in the first half, Loyola couldn't overcome Duquesne's hot shooting in the later stages of the contest.
The Dukes used a 10-0 run in the fourth quarter, where they shot 64% in the period, to grab a nine-point lead at 65-56 with two-and-a-half minutes to play. Brown answered with her fourth made 3-pointer but it would be as close as Loyola could get in the final two minutes.
Â
The Ramblers led 19-15 after the first quarter and carried the early momentum into a three-point halftime advantage at 33-30, after holding the Dukes scoreless for nearly six minutes in the second period.
Â
Loyola hit three treys in each of the first three quarters, including a
Maya Chandler three to even the score at 47 in the final minute of the third period. However, Duquesne found a basket with 12 seconds left to give the home team a two-point lead going to the fourth stanza.
Â
Sitori Tanin put the Ramblers back in front at 50-49, and a made three by Chivers pushed Loyola ahead 56-55 with 5:51 remaining in the game. But, the Dukes responded with a quick 4-0 spurt before the media timeout, and the run continued after the stoppage to put Duquesne ahead for good.
