FAIRFAX, Va. (March 18, 2023) - The Ramblers (5-15) used a three-run rally in the top of the sixth inning to nab their first A-10 win against George Mason (14-8) in game two of Saturday's doubleheader. The 7-6 win forced a split as the Patriots took the first game, 4-1.
Game One // George Mason 4, Loyola 1
George Mason's bats were alive in the first inning plating all four runs in the opening frame. Bozek led off with a single through the left side, while Ball joined her on base after being walked. Taormina and Bechtel tallied back-to-back base hits. Betchel's single to right field scored the first two runs, while Taormina scored later in the inning off a sac fly from Warrens. The final run for the Patriots crossed home following a fielding error by the Ramblers, and the Patriots had a quick four-run lead.Â
The third and fourth innings saw Loyola hits, but the Ramblers wouldn't get on the board until the fifth inning.
Nova Sinskul led off with a double to right center. She made her way to third on a passed ball before scoring on a wild pitch.Â
Riley Owens and
Amelia Thomas recorded hits in the fifth and sixth for the Ramblers, but the Patriots held on for a 4-1 win in game one of Saturday's play.
Game Two // Loyola 7, George Mason 6
The Patriots took another early lead after capitalizing on two first inning errors. Taormina used a sac fly to send Ball home. Bechtel and DeRosa added two more to the board after scoring on a single from Warrens. GMU led 3-0 heading into the second.
Tori Boysen helped the Ramblers respond in the top of two with a lead off single to right field. Sass entered to pinch run was joined on base by Sinskul who was hit by a pitch. The pair were advanced into scoring position with a sac bunt by
Jocelyn Currie, and both would cross home before the end of the inning, but the Patriots held on to a 3-2 lead.
Both teams tallied two runs in the third to keep it a one-run game in GMU's favor. It wasn't until a three-run rally in the sixth shifted momentum in the Ramblers' favor.
Ava Bieneman and
Teagan Sopczak recorded two straight singles for Loyola. The Ramblers the loaded the bases following a walk for
Haley Wallace. All three were brought in by GMU's pitching staff with two hit by pitches and a walk. Wallace's run captured the lead at 7-6, and Loyola held on for its first A-10 win.

- The Ramblers finished game one with five hits. They were led by Thomas who went 2-for-2. She was the only Loyola player to tally two in the game.Â
