Thomas Homers in Sunday Loss to George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. (March 9, 2023) - Loyola (5-16) fell 2-1 in the series finale to George Mason (15-8) Sunday afternoon. Amelia Thomas hit a solo home run in the top of the first, but the Patriots responded with two unanswered to win the first A-10 series of the season.

For the first time this weekend, the Ramblers struck first and tallied a run to start the game. Amelia Thomas sent a solo shot over the center field fence to give Loyola a 1-0 lead. The Patriots didn't let the lead last and knotted the game 1-1 in the bottom of the first. Bozek led off with a triple to left field and scored after stealing home after Ball walked.

The game was deadlocked at 1-1 until the fourth inning when George Mason took its first lead of the day. Taormina doubled, while Bechtel singled in back-to-back at-bats to lead off the inning. The early base runners set up DeRosa later in the inning for a sac fly, and Bales scored to give them a 2-1 edge.

The Ramblers put the game winning run on base in both the sixth and seventh innings but were unable to convert down the stretch. George Mason went on to win 2-1.
