Ramblers Rally for Extra Inning Win in Home Opener

CHICAGO (March 25, 2023) - Loyola softball (6-16, 2-2) downed Saint Joseph's Saturday afternoon picking up a win in the team's home opener. The Ramblers forced extra innings in the seventh and walked it off in the ninth for their second A-10 win of the season.

Haley Wallace led off the ninth with a single to short stop and was quickly joined by Nova Sinskul who forced an error on her bunt. Both got into scoring position following a wild pitch setting the Ramblers up for the win with no outs.

Tori Boysen connected two at-bats later for Loyola putting the ball down in the infield. Wallace beat the play at the plate to score the winning run for the Ramblers.

Most of Saturday's action was saved for the final three innings of the day, but the Hawks put the pressure on right out of the gates with runners on first and third with just one out in the first. The Rambler defense locked down and tallied two straight outs to escape the first unscathed.

Loyola's first hit of the game didn't come until the bottom of the sixth inning. Serria Sass singled to shortstop. Her momentum was killed on the next at-bat with the Hawks turning a double-play to end the inning.

Fife turned around and led off with a double to right field for the Hawks. Bondoc, who entered to pinch-run, advanced to third with a sac bunt. She then scored on Baxter's single to left to break the deadlock and take a 1-0 edge.

Amelia Thomas responded with a leadoff single for the Ramblers, and she eventually scored on Barnett's double to right field to knot the game 1-1 and force extra innings. The Ramblers nearly won it in the eighth with the go-ahead run on third base, but they had to wait until the ninth to seal the deal, 2-1.
