Loyola Sweeps Saint Joseph's to Open A-10 Play at Home

CHICAGO (March 26, 2023) - Loyola (8-16, 4-2) completed its first A-10 sweep of the season downing Saint Joseph's in the final two games of the regular season series Sunday. The Ramblers recorded a 4-0 shutout to win game one followed by a 9-1 run-rule in game two. It's the first time this season Loyola has won three straight games.

Game One // Loyola 4, Saint Joseph's 0
All four Loyola runs were saved for the fifth inning in game one of the doubleheader. Nova Sinskul led off with a single to center and went on to score the game winning run on Tori Boysen's single. Sierra Sass and Madison Ebeling notched back-to-back hits later in the fifth to plate the final three runs. Sass's single sent Remsik across home, while Ebeling doubled to score the final two runs.

The Hawks failed to gain another base runner before the end of the seventh, and their only hit came in the game's first at bat. Loyola held on for the 4-0 shutout.

Game Two // Loyola 9, Saint Joseph's 1 (Five Innings)
There was no shortage of action for the Ramblers in game two Sunday with at least one run scored in every inning. The first two came in the bottom of the first with the help of a couple SJU errors. Sass singled through the left side to lead off the inning and stole second almost immediately. Ebeling advanced her to third and got on base with a throwing error that opened the door for Sass to score the first run. Ebeling capitalized on another error to get to third and made it 2-0 with a single from Barnett.

Ebeling wasn't done making an impact in the game when the second inning rolled around. Sopczak and Sass used a walk and single, respectively, to get on base for Loyola before Ebeling hit them all home with a three-run blast over the left field fence. It quickly became a 5-0 edge for the Ramblers.

The lead kept building in the third with three more runs added to the board. Another fielding error by the Hawks let Barnett go home after she opened the inning with a base-hit. SJU couldn't catch a break with Ebeling singling down the right field line to tally two more RBI for an 8-0 lead heading into the fourth inning.

The Hawks tried to avoid the run rule with their first run of the day in the fourth inning. Cancila singled to center and made it home on Cash's double in the next at-bat. The Ramblers pulled off a right-catcher-third base out of Cash's pinch runner to empty the base path, and they held on to an 8-1 edge.

Amelia Thomas led off the fifth with a double down the left field line. Sinskul advanced her to third with a single, and Thomas went on to steal home to extend the lead back to eight. It forced a run-rule win with the Hawks failing to plate another run in the fifth. Ramblers win, 9-1.
