CHICAGO (March 28, 2023) - Loyola (10-16) swept the Bradley Braves in a Tuesday doubleheader.
Andie Broniewicz tossed a no-hitter for a 2-0 win in the first game, while the teams combined for 25 hits in the night cap that the Ramblers stole, 10-7. Loyola has won their last five games and remains perfect at home.
Game One // Loyola 2, Bradley 0
Both the Braves and Ramblers gained their first base runners in the second inning with the Ramblers finding home for the lead.Â
Sydney Barnett recorded the first hit of the inning with a double to the center field fence, but it was
Nova Sinskul that would make it home for a 1-0 Loyola edge. Sinskul made her way to third base with the help of Loyola's second hit of the inning from
Hannah Nalley, and she went on to score while Nalley attempted to steal second base.  Â
Bradley put two runners on in the third with a pair of walks, but the Ramblers held them off with three grounded outs to end the inning holding on to the lead.
Loyola doubled their lead in the fourth with the help of
Amelia Thomas. Thomas tripled to right center with one out, while
Haley Wallace plated her using a sac fly. It was the final action for either team in game one, and Loyola hung on for a 2-0 win.
Game Two // Loyola 10, Bradley 7
There was no shortage of action in game two with the Ramblers and Braves combining for 25 total hits. Loyola jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first two innings. Barnett and Sinskul hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the first, while
Sophia Remsik and Wallace had RBI singles in the second to highlight the action.
The Braves were finally able to respond in the third inning. Welsh sparked the rally with a leadoff double, and she and DeRolf would score the first two runs on Badgley's single to right center. Badgley wasn't on the bases long with a McCoy two-run homer on deck, and the Braves were able to cut the lead, 6-4. The Ramblers were able to add one more in the third inning before a quiet fourth.
Bradley carried its momentum into the fifth and managed to tie the game, 7-7. Two runs capitalized on a fielding error in the outfield to get within one of the Ramblers. Comstock then hit in the tying run with a double to left center. The final Brave went down swinging, and Loyola was able to escape without anymore damage in the fifth.
With one out in the sixth, Wallace doubled in Thomas for the game winning run, but Loyola would add two more before the inning's action ended. Sinskul helped bring Wallace home forcing a fielder's choice. She then went on to score on Boysen's single through the leftside before the final out was recorded. The Ramblers held a 10-7 edge.
Despite two early base runners, the Ramblers locked down on defense.
Peyton Pepkowski retired two straight, while Thomas caught a foul ball to secure the win.
