CHICAGO (April 16, 2023) - The Ramblers braved the cold and rain Sunday to complete the sweep of the Colonials. Loyola (17-19, 11-4) plated seven runs on seven hits to earn their second A-10 sweep of the season. The Ramblers remain a perfect 8-0 at home.
In all three games against GW, Loyola struck in the first inning. The Colonials helped the first two cross home with a wild pitch and walk for a 2-0 lead, before responding in the second. Torres sent her first pitch far over the right center fence to cut the lead in half.
The Ramblers regained the two-run lead by the end of two.
Sierra Sass led off with a single to left field and scored the third Loyola run on a RBI single from
Hannah Nalley later in the inning.
Loyola made it 4-1 in the fourth inning with the help of
Abbie Gregus who hit
Amelia Thomas in with a sac fly. Thomas got on with a double and made her way to third with back-to-back walks. Gregus put her pinch hit opportunity to work and gave Thomas enough time to tag up for the score.
In the top of the sixth, the Colonials didn't give up and put the tying runner up to bat three times. Cano and Corpuz each crushed their first pitches for a double and triple, respectively. Corpuz's triple plated Cano, but three straight strikeouts left GW still trailing, 4-2.
The Ramblers put the Colonials to bed in the sixth with a three-run burst.
Haley Wallace helped two of those runners score with a double down the left field line, and she then went to take advantage of a misplayed bunt and throwing error by the catcher. Loyola went on to win 7-2.
